Currently in iOS5 there are 11 screens of apps and one extra for your spotlight search. The Original iPhone could handle 9. It was bumped to 11 with iOS3.
There are tons of ways to improve battery life on your iPhone. First make sure you have settings your don't use or care about turned off. Things like Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, Notifications, Email Fetches, and other constantly updated things eat your battery alive. Also the iPhone's screen is brighter than any other smartphone, so consider turning down the brightness and turning on auto brightness to really see some big gains. Turn off the ones you don't use frequently to save battery.
Next, make sure you're charging your phone in full cycles at least once a week. Let you phone completely die sometimes and try to let it charge to 100% before you touch it. Also remember 100% isn't a full charge. iPhone batteries have a fast charge system allowing them to reach 100% in just 2 hours. This 100% will last you as long if not longer than most other smartphones. However, that's not actually a full charge. a full 4 hour charge will last you longer than the quick 2 hour charge.
If you're really hitting you phone hard during the day and need more battery life, there are tons of great cases that have built in batteries to give you phone that extra juice it needs. Mophie makes some great power packs and cases for iPhones to help get power users through the day.
Absolutely. Right within the Camera.app you can record your video and immediately trim it down before sending it off to your friends and family.
There are also several video editing apps available for your iPod. The best of which is Apple's own iMovie. And at $4.99 for full video editing software at your fingertips who can argue? It will allow you reorder clips, add effects, add titles, set up themes, and export to your favorite sites like Youtube or Vimeo.
The glass on the iPhone 4/4S is chemically treated to increase flexibility and overall strength. The same process is used to create bulletproof helicopter cockpit glass. However that doesn't mean your iPhone can stop a bullet. While the glass is just as strong as that of bulletproof glass, it is not the same thickness as say the cockpit of a Jet. Apple uses the stronger glass so it can then use thinner pieces on the iPhone. So the glass on the iPhone 4/4S is only about twice as strong as the glass on an iPhone 3G/3GS however is nearly 1/3 the thickness.
Most high end mobile devices have followed Apple's lead and begun using the same type of glass. Corning is a glass company that makes Gorilla Glass. They've actually made it for 30 years, but it wasn't until Apple began using it that it found its way into mobile consumer products. Its believed by some that while many of Apple's competitors use Corning's Gorilla Glass, Apple actually moved to Japanese Asahi's Dragontrail glass that while using a similar process reaches nearly 6 times the strength of Gorilla Glass. Since Apple is very secretive of there suppliers we may never know.

Technically all electronics are capable of getting viruses. However, there are no viruses for iOS yet. And there are several very good protections already in place.
Also as a note, the worst thing you can do for the security on your device is to Jailbreak the device and install pirated or stolen apps from an illegal app store. Jailbreaking works by breaking firewalls and sandboxes leaving your phone vulnerable. And installing apps that are stolen or pirated from an illegal app store means they may have been tampered with or worse never even submitted to Apple's approval process.
Apple offers several ways to back up your iPhone. The original way is plugging into your computer and opening iTunes. Syncing this way will store a back up on your computer.
With iOS5 there are two new ways to back up, Wifi Syncing and iCloud Backup. First you can now wirelessly sync to your computer over wifi. With automatic wifi syncing turned on, your iPhone will sync whenever you plug it into a charging dock of any kind and it is in range of your computers wifi network.
The best way today however is using Apple's free iCloud backup. Once you turn on iCloud back ups, your phone will back itself up to Apple's servers over the internet while your iPhone is charging. These backups are available anytime, anywhere. This way is the most transparent and is really a turn on a forget backup system. The only weakness of this option is storage. Apple offers 5GB of free storage in iCloud. While this doesn't include Apps, Songs, Movies, TV Shows, or iBooks it can still fill up rather quickly if you take a lot of photo on your iPhone. Luckily expanded storage is easy to buy and cheap to afford. You'll find more information expanding your storage in your Settings app under iCloud then Storage & Backup.
Fully turn off your device by holding the sleep button until you see a red power switch appear on the screen.
Next use a toothpick or any thin pointed object to scrap the mud from the phone's crevices. Be sure you hold the phone in a manner that prevents the now loose dirt from falling inside the phone. The best way is to hold it upside down and scrap so the loose dirt falls to the floor. You also set up a vacuum and scrap your phone directly in front of it so as pieces of mud loosen up it will immediately suck them away from the phone.
If your phone is particularly dirty, its possible some mud is actually inside the device. Its possible to open up your phone and clean it out further but only do so if you're extremely comfortable working with electronics and willing to void whatever warranty you may have. Also I'm sure official Apple repair shops or genius bars would be willing to assist you with cleaning your device.
You absolutely can, its very simple. Press the home button and the sleep button at the same time. You'll see the screen flash white. You can find your screenshot in your Camera Roll in Photos.app where you'll be able to do whatever you like with it.
